Mary Esther’s New Year is named after my beloved auntie Mary, she was my second mom. She was my cheerleader, my auntie-friend, soap opera partner and my confidant. This was my aunt who walked me every day to kindergarten and stood in the rain, snow or hot sun to pick me up from school. She was my “yes” to my mother’s “no”. I loved my auntie and miss her dearly! Her birthday is on New Year’s Eve; I celebrate her with this candle. May she rest in peace!
